It's taken me 10 years to finally return to the blogging scene. This is more of a revival for me, having had a Multiply blog for years before Multiply itself kicked the bucket. My now-defunct Multiply blog was more of my music haven-- dance music haven, if you please, although there were fair smatterings of pop and soul records in it. It was where I unleashed the music geek side of me, the side that makes me wonder why I retained all these seemingly useless pop culture information.
What really pushed me to bring this back to life, really, was this: I originally intended to launch a podcast, playing all my favorite tunes and sharing bits and pieces of my memories of a particular record and whatever else I knew about it. Musical memories and trivia, you say? Sounds good to me.
When I sought the advice of a friend who works for Facebook, she told me those records will be blocked and not be permitted for public listening. Rather than risk the ire of the copyright police, I went with my friends' suggestion: that I take up blogging about my favorite musical stuff. Again.
This blog pays tribute to my former Multiply blog (soundfactory.multiply.com), which was named after the legendary New York club Sound Factory and masterminded by my club hero Junior Vasquez. Any record that was played at the Sound Factory, whether it was a Junior Vasquez remix or another artist's, I had to have it.
Anyway, this blog is going to take off from where I had left off in Multiply, back in 2010. I will try my best to be as consistent in posting as I was back in the day. If you're into classic dance records--or the odd pop and soul tune--I say: welcome! (Photo from the blog http://the-sound-factory.blogspot.com/)
